On the path of the Gentleman Glassmakers
The Chemin des Verriers is the name of the route once taken by the porters who, on the back of a donkey, transported the production of the glass factories to the Mediterranean ports.
A glassmaker's workshop, set up in the heart of the Hall, offers glass-spinning demonstrations by the glassmaker Guillaume Domise.
The demonstrations take place on an ad hoc basis. The pieces made during the public demonstrations are available for sale in the art shop.
From Ferrières-les-Verreries to Vacquières, passing through Claret, discover the Chemin des Verriers, a small, winding and magnificent road that winds its way through the Causse de l'Hortus and its surroundings.
The first known workshops in the region date back to the 14th century. This luxury craft produced goblets in the Venetian style, flasks and vials for apothecaries and perfumers. Glass production reached its peak in the 17th century. Montpellier, with its Faculty of Medicine, ordered glass in large quantities.
The workshops, which generally had between five and ten workers, multiplied with a strong concentration in the north of the Pic Saint-Loup. The master glassmakers supervise the furnaces and only make the delicate pieces.
They all come from families of gentlemen glassmakers and can only work after a ten-year training course. They form a large union that looks after their interests and privileges and helps each other in case of difficulties.
A vineyard of about 50 hectares is located in the communes of Claret and Valflaunès in the Hérault, north of Montpellier, in the Languedoc region.
The vines flourish in a unique natural cirque of south/south-east facing clay-limestone slopes, where they benefit from exceptional exposure. The landscape makes them a real attraction for lovers of a wild and very hospitable nature.

Couloubrines: a history of glassmaking.
Nature, panorama and gastronomy...
This is a process that consists of frosting the glass using a powerful abrasive jet of sand or corundum (aluminium oxide) projected by air under pressure.
Depending on the duration of the spraying and the strength of the jet, a frosted, matt, satin or depth effect is obtained. The artist can also write or draw patterns on the glass and even sculpt it, which is one of the techniques used by artist Yves Trucchi to shape his pieces..
Another glassmaking technique: sandblasting
He is a unique explorer of the sea bed. He captures the sea and takes small multicoloured fish hostage. He is a glass artist who shapes his material using a very personal technique.
His glass dreams with marine reflections transport us into a world of silence in the form of transparent aquariums.
