Saint-Gély-du-Fesc
Coming from Montpellier, it is from the village of Saint-Gély-du-Fesc that you really enter the garrigues of the Pic Saint-Loup.
On a communication axis that was important in different eras, the road to Saint-Gély-du-Fesc was already widely used in prehistoric times, between the Cévennes, rich in minerals, and the saltworks of the Mediterranean coast.
This was well before the foundation of Montpellier, as proven by the archaeological remains discovered in the commune and the name of the village itself. A church was built there in the Romanesque period, but it was rebuilt in the 19th century. As for the village, it is now part of the Montpellier ring road and is thus marked by very significant demographic growth.
The park of Coulondres, whose lands were part of a large agricultural estate based on agro-sylvo-pastoralism, has become a popular place for families to go for a walk. It is maintained by fallow deer, sika, Girgentana goats and mouflons introduced for this purpose, and these animals can be seen on a silent walk.
This can be complemented by a botanical trail. There is also the possibility of organising events around the theme of the environment and nature.
