Leaning on the hill named Bellevue, surrounded by woods and scrubland, crossed by three small streams (the Budel, the Valat and the Capoulère), this village is a pleasant place to live.

It owes its name to Saint-Hilaire, bishop of Poitiers, and to its position (Bellevue, Beauvoir). Its inhabitants are called Saint-Hilairois.

The history of this village takes us back to 980, the date on which it is mentioned in a charter in the cartulary of Guilhem, lords of Montpellier. Indeed, pottery and coins dating from this period have been found which attest to a Roman presence.

The parish church, built in the 12th century in the early southern Romanesque style, is listed as a historical monument. From the top of its 25-metre high bell tower, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding area: from the Cévennes in the north to the Mediterranean in the south.
