The historical past of the village of Teyran remains rather discreet, including the medieval period.

However, it has a very important archaeological site and retains part of its wall dating from the XIIIᵉ century.

In the early 13th century, one of the local lords was allowed to build a castle surrounded by pentagonal ramparts on the nearby hillside and the population moved under its protection.

Thus Teyran was born, while at the same time the old village of Aubeterre was abandoned and gradually dismantled.

The church of Saint-André survived until the 18th century, but the place of worship had already moved to the castle chapel.

In the following century, the chapel became a parish church and was enlarged and rebuilt on part of the castle, which had been purchased by the municipality in 1842.

The town hall, which was also built on the site of the fortress, still has some of the walls of the chapel and the baptismal font dug into the rock.

As for the enclosure, three of the four modified towers remain, as well as the memory of the entrance gate to the south.

It is mainly for the Chassean station of Montbeyre, near the source of the Cadoule, that Teyran is known in archaeological circles, as this is a period of prehistory little represented in Languedoc.

The very complete stratigraphy, the abundance of material and the presence of a series of stone constructions make this site of exceptional scientific interest.
